WOW! What can we say about this tour. We just got back from leading the first Desert to Mountain Tour this past summer and what an adventure.
Desert to Mountain is an incredible voyage. We begin our tour in Las Vegas. Our first night together will be comprised of a welcome dinner organized at a local bar / restaurant that will allow you to mingle with the other riders and let loose. We believe that an open comfortable setting makes for a quick introduction to the people you will be spending your trip with. You'll have a chance to eat some great food and have a few drinks to unwind and get yourself settled for the ride ahead. Your first night's accommodation will put you right in the heart of Las Vegas where you can walk to anywhere on the strip. Don't blow all your money the first night, we'll be back here again!
We start off your first morning with a good breakfast and off to pick up our bikes. Everyone will be issued a late model Legendary Harley Davidson Ultra Classic touring motorcycle. If you have a preference for another Harley Davidson model or other type of motorcycle, let us know in advance and we can easily accommodate. The Ultra Classics have become the standard just for their comfort, durability and accommodating design for carrying all your necessities.
Our voyage begins towards the South East with our first stop at the Hoover Dam, one the man made wonders of the world. What an incredible structure! We spend some time exploring the Dam and learning how this grand marvel was created. We then continue our journey towards Kingman and east through the desert. The temperatures have been known to hit 120 degrees Fahrenheit (45 Degrees Celcius) so we'll make sure to keep plenty of water on hand for hydrating. We will eventually make our way along the longest portion of Route 66 that is still intact today. On this stretch of Route 66 you will experience small towns such as Peach Springs, Hackberry and Seligman.
The ride continues east all the way to Albuquerque, New Mexico with stops along the way at the great Meteor Crater, The Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert. Our stop at the Jack Rabbit trading post will offer up the opportunity to pick up some Arizona and Route 66 memorabilia.
Once we arrive in Albuquerque, we'll be spending the night enjoying some local Latin culture, with some local foods and a night of Latin music and if you bring your dancing shoes, you can participate in some Latin dancing in one of the most interesting restaurants you will ever see.
We will spend the next few days making our way north through Santa Fe, and traveling across the continental divide before heading north and into the breath taking Colorado Rockies. Our ride through the mountains will take us to cities and towns that you've only read about in story books. As we cross the Continental Divide, we will ride across the Rio Grande and ride into real cowboy country ending up in Pegosa Springs for a couple of days relaxing and bathing in the natural spring waters that come out of the mountain side. These waters are said to have healing powers and they will revitalize you from the previous days of riding and prepare you for the days ahead. Our ride out of Pegosa Springs will take us north to Silverton along the Million Dollar Mile road that climbs the Rockies to a 14000 ft. elevation. We'll spend some time in Silverton, a small mining town that spends most of the year buried in snow. The mountain surroundings are the most tranquil and peaceful sites you will ever experience. We continue North along the Million Dollar Mile road until we wrap back around south towards Durango, Colorado. This ride will test your riding skills with spectacular views and winding roads along the mountain side. Be prepared for many stops along this ride to take pictures. We will also be stopping off to have lunch on the mountain in one of our favourite locations with spectacular look outs.
The Four Corners will be our next major stop. Along the way we will spend a couple of nights in small towns in Colorado meeting the locals and experiencing their lifestyles. The Four Corners is the only place in the US where you can stand in 4 states at the same time. You will be able to stand in Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico.
We will continue our ride into the South Rim of the Grand Canyon where you will experience one of natures wonders of the world. The Grand Canyon is an experience that cannot be described in words. Only experiencing this wonder can help you understand the power of it's sites and sounds. We will spend a night here to be able to experience both the sun set and sun rise which are said to be the most beautiful in the world.
Our final approach into Las Vegas will take us over the Hoover Dam again, this time in the evening during cooler temperatures. You will spend your last couple of days in Las Vegas enjoying the sites on your own free time. For those that chose to ride some more, there are wondrous areas close to Las Vegas worth exploring.
